Eric Dixon - New Mexico Attorney and Trial Practice Professional

With more than four decades of legal practice, Eric Dixon has handled civil, criminal, employment, and appellate matters in state and federal courts. Eric Dixon began his career prosecuting felonies and misdemeanors with the 5th Judicial District Attorney’s Office before receiving an appointment as a special assistant United States attorney. His early work included a federal narcotics prosecution connected to Eddy County and later investigative developments involving a former state attorney general. Since establishing a solo practice in 1990, he has represented clients throughout New Mexico while litigating matters in Texas and Colorado. His work in New Mexico has included employment discrimination, civil rights, personal injury, and other contested cases.

Alongside his trial practice, Mr. Dixon has taught business law, employment law, and criminal law as an adjunct instructor. He has also delivered continuing legal education programs on cross-examination, voir dire, discovery disputes, litigation ethics, personal injury cases, cannabis law, workplace accommodations, and developments in labor law. His written work has addressed judicial reform, judicial accountability, alimony strategy, and the development of judge-made law. He has also served in professional roles involving the state bar, trial practice organizations, judicial selection, lawyer discipline, legal specialization, and court rules.

Mr. Dixon earned a juris doctor from St. Louis University after completing a bachelor’s degree in history at the University of Windsor, where he received academic and extracurricular honors. Outside private practice, he provided pro bono counsel during the formation and public funding of the Roosevelt County Special Hospital District. He has also supported legal education in local schools, mentored prospective and practicing attorneys, participated in pro bono programs, and served on the boards of Rotary, the Salvation Army, and the Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce.
